#Back2School Burdens or Blessings: Which Will Define Your Daughter’s Year?

Wow! It’s hard to believe that next week, July 31st to be exact, is the first day of school in the two counties where I spend most of my days speaking.

My how times have changed! Never in a million years could I have ever imagined starting school in July.

The teachers like to spend several weeks with the students before I come in to speak, which means I still have a few more weeks to get my voice ready for the four to six hours of speaking each day.

As the new school year begins, I’m looking forward to seeing the light bulb go off on teens faces when they hear a truth for the first time, causing them to connect the dots between their current choices and their future realities.

Most importantly, I’m looking forward to seeing how God will continue to answer all our prayers over the next school year. You know the prayers that I’ve been requesting from you over the years?

Won’t He Do It!

A young lady who was in one of my classes last year approached me at a Christian youth conference this summer to see if I remembered her. [It’s always funny that they believe my memory is good enough to recognize the thousands of students that I speak to every year. If they only knew how often I forget where I put my cellphone, they wouldn’t dare ask if I remembered them months or even years after they were in my class.] smiley

After asking if I remembered her, she said, “I KNEW you were a Christian as soon as you opened your mouth.”

Mind you, I never mention God during my presentation. Nor do I make my case for them to abstain based on religion.

So, it did my heart good to know that God answers this prayer that I pray on the way to every school, “Let Your Spirit rest upon me so that the students can sense Your presence even though I never mention Your name…”

Laying Down My Students’ Burdens

Why is God’s presence so crucial?

You need only spend one day on a middle or high school campus to know the answer to that question.

I could hold office hours on any given middle or high school campus all day every day and still have a steady stream of students filing in and out to speak to me.

There’s never enough time between classes to talk with every student who stays behind to share their story with me. And I can’t count how many students I’ve had to decline their request for my email address or phone number.

The most difficult part of my day is not speaking for 4-6 hours. That’s nothing compared to the conversations I have between classes and during lunch with the students.

Conversations like the ones I had with the 15-year-old girl who cried in my arms while asking me to please convince her mom not to force her to have an abortion.

Or the 17-year-old girl I had to console because she had to have her cervix scraped because of pre-cancerous cells caused by HPV (human papilloma virus) and she was scared to death.

Or the 18-year-old girl I had to accompany to the counselor to report being molested from the ages of 6 to 12 by her biological father and raped at the age of 15 by a 16-year-old “friend.” I was the first person she ever told.

Yes, these are the students and types of situations that I’ve been soliciting your prayers for over the years.  Rarely do I leave a school without feeling burdened by something a student has told me.

Today’s students are dealing with things at school and home that would be difficult for many adults to handle. They often look to me for answers.

There’s no way I can handle the weight of their issues without God’s presence and guidance. That’s why I’m grateful for your prayers, for me and the students.

Even if your daughter isn’t burdened by these types of issues at home, the pressures she’ll face from society, the media, and her peers at school can be overwhelming to say the least.

However, you’d be surprised how a little preparation can go a long way towards easing your daughter’s burdens this upcoming school year.

Please address the issue of very revealing fashions. Girls just must know, that showing her personal body by too little cover up, is a big come on to the guys.  Thanks.
